Vintage Snapshot: Midwest Pottery

Let’s see…what interesting photo can I share with the TV Lamp Nation?

So what’s going on here? First off, the location is Midwest Pottery in Morton, Illinois. It is sometime in the 1940s, and we see Richard Dunn and Howard Kron working on the first step of building a new kiln…tearing down the old one! Kron, best known for his design exploits at Texans Incorporated, got his start at Haldeman Potteries in California and then went to work at Midwest. He and Dunn (then managing Midwest) worked well together, forming a partnership that survived through the companies move to South Milwaukee, Wisconsin and again to Tyler, Texas. The facts behind the Tyler days are very sketchy, but the company didn’t seem to last long after the move, its probable demise a result of embezzlement by an unknown party. (Howard’s choice of head wear is interesting, eh?)
